The Temple of the Tooth Relic

History:
The history of the Temple of the Tooth Relic dates back to ancient times. It was built within the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which was the last stronghold of Sinhalese kings against colonial powers. The temple has been a center of Buddhist worship for centuries and has undergone various renovations and expansions over time.
Open Hours:
The temple is typically open to visitors every day of the week, including weekends and holidays. However, it's important to check the specific opening hours as they may vary. Generally, the temple opens early in the morning and closes in the evening. It's advisable to visit during non-peak hours to avoid large crowds.

Times of rituals (Thewawa/ Daily Service)

Early Period of Service: 5.30 a.m. to 7.00 a.m.

 Middle Period of Service: 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

 Evening Period of Service: 6.30 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Ticket Price:

There is usually an entrance fee to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

★ Fees for Other All Countries. – 2000.00LKR

Note: Tickets are automatically issued by the machines installed in Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic). Tickets or fees issued by other individuals or institutions are not valid

Entrance Guidelines for local and foreign visitors.
★ Hand over footwear, bulky luggage and non-essential items to the reception booths and get the corresponding token before entering the temple premises.

(Two separate booths have been set up for local devotees and foreign tourists.)

★ Please note that all persons entering the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic will be screened at the entrance.

(All items including the offerings brought, will be checked with the help of scanning machines.)

★ Avoid bringing harmful materials like polythene, plastic to the temple premises.

★ Avoid bringing offerings in polythene bags or plastic bags/ containers.

★ Please be respectfully attired when visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

(Please Note: Shorts, sleeveless or body revealing attire are not allowed. Appropriate clothing is provided free of charge at the entrances.)
